I’ve never considered myself a “grill master” but certainly one who dabbles and enjoys the finer art of grilling. The smell of sirloin, the crackling of asparagus, the sizzling of chard pineapple… you get it!
I’ve been grilling for years, but this summer everything changed: My wife gave me a meat thermometer. I now had a tool to measure the process. Here’s a Before/After snapshot:
BEFORE:
I would stress out when starting to grill. I wasn’t sure when it would be done…
I would constantly check it. Way too much…
I would slice it open to get a visual. Thereby letting the juice out…
I was never really sure. Always guessing…
Forget about cooking them "to order”…
AFTER:
I could finally relax.
I had a system in place to gauge where I was at all times... I didn’t need to worry.
I knew what stage the meet was at.
I could sit back and enjoy myself along the way because I knew EXACTLY when the meat was ready.
Leadership development is a lot like that… gauging your team, knowing where they are in the process, knowing what they need… Without cutting them open in the process!
